Sorry I didn’t post last night- I got home really late and was exhausted. Yesterday was one of those days of eating when I was surrounded by lots of “not so healthy food” and did my best to make healthy choices. I also ended up with a tummy ache!
I had walked 35 minutes to the main office of the organization where I work from my apartment, and we later took a walking tour of the neighborhood around the office (we were doing an orientation session). We finally sat down to lunch at Maria’s Mexican Bistro. It had a great atmosphere- sunny with bright paintings on its walls.
The waiter immediately brought huge bowls of chips to the table. Even though I was very hungry, I tried to take a small portion of chips with guacamole, and to hold off til my food came. I probably had about six chips.
The guac was made there, on the spot, and tasted really fresh!
I tried to select foods that were not too greasy, rich, or creamy, which- as you all know- is hard at a Mexican restaurant. It’s also hard when you are huuuungry to make good choices.
I decided on the chicken enchiladas in mole poblano sauce: shredded chicken in 3 soft corn tortillas, covered in a mole sauce. If you’ve never had mole sauce, it is made with chili peppers, spices, and sometimes a little bit of chocolate! Every mole sauce I’ve had has been a little different. This one was good!
It came with a small plate of rice and beans.
I ate all of the rice and beans and half of my enchilada dish. I was satisfied but not too full.
At the end of the day, all of the staff at the orgnanization got together for a barbeque- another spread of tempting, not so healthy food- and drinks! There were mini hamburgers and hot dogs, chips and salsa, cheese and crackers, cookies and cake, and carrots and hummus- along with some other veggies.
I started off with a mini hamburger (served on a potato bun).
It was yummy!
And one of these:
Never had “honey moon” but I loved Blue Moon. Honey Moon was delish! Light and a little sweet.
I munched on some carrots and a little scoop of hummus.
We hung out for a while, drinking and talking. Most of the younger staff staid til pretty late. Over the course of the night, I had another beer and a lemonade with strawberries and a splash of vodka.
I got hungry a bit later and didn’t want to munch on cookies or chips, so I had a small hot dog, without the bun. Around 10, everyone headed to a bar for more drinking, but I didn’t have any more. My stomach kind of hurt, so I sipped on water and Gingerale instead. I had a pretty bad stomach ache when I finally got last night and had to take some pepto-bismal.
It was perhaps not the healthiest of days, but I tried to make good choices. I woke up this morning feeling kind of bloated and gross. I was thinking this morning about how this week, between the conference in Philly and the party last night, I’ve been doing a lot of social drinking. Not drinking much, but just drinking more frequently (I think I had a beer Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday night out with friends) than I am used to. Oh, well. It’s part of life I guess.
I’m going to start my weekend on a healthy note with some exercise and get back on track. See you guys later!
