So, I had brought lunch from home today- leftover salad from last night and a piece of olive bread. But, around 1:00, as I was getting hungry, my boss decided to order pizza for us. These are the moments, quite honestly, when I need to take a step back. There definitely was a time, not too long ago, when I would have freaked out about a slice of pizza “making me fat.” I would have been uncomfortable eating something that I had not “controlled”- and I would probably have made up some excuse about not being hungry or not eating cheese just to stay away from this “unhealthy” food.
But here are the things I thought about to bring me back to health and BALANCE:
1) I love pizza!
2) Eating pizza with coworkers brings us together to sit, talk, and enjoy.
3) I am a very active person (and worked out this morning) and should eat what I want- in moderation.
So, I quickly realized that I should definitely have a delicious piece of pizza- just not 3. And I decided to just eat half of my salad on the side. A perfect compromise. And, man, was this good!
This pizza was from Sal’s in Brooklyn. This place is right near our office. I’ve never ordered from here before, but it was awesome! The slices were big and cheesy with a doughy crust.
My salad from last night was just as good today- I just sprinkled some balsamic on it this morning.
Now I have a great snack- the rest of the salad!
Also, on another note, something funny happened after lunch that was kind of “food blog” related. We got a delivery from Jif and Smuckers of free snack size PB and Jellies for our students!
How cute are they? We got this delivery because companies like Smuckers are smart: they send Adult Ed programs like us free samples, with the hopes that we teach our students lesson plans around “health” and their product. Here is the first page of the lesson plan they send with the food:
I just found this really fascinating… a very creative way of marketing… who knew they were keyed into the Immigrant Adult Education world?!
Adios, chicas + chicos!
