Good morning, readers! I can’t believe it’s already Sunday- doesn’t the weekend just fly by? Too fast!
Last night, we had a really fun dinner out at an Indian place and then a beer/ wine bar in the West Village. In such a fast paced, high pressure city it can be hard to find time to just hang out with friends and spend a good few hours talking, so it’s really nice when it does happen. Everyone is always so busy (including myself- not free of guilt). I also saw my big sis last night (she stopped by for a drink), which made me very happy :).
Dinner was at an Indian place I hadn’t tried before, but which got really good reviews online, called Karahi. It was definitely yummy! My girlfriends and I each ordered a plate of different vegetarian dishes, which was nice, because we got to try lots of different things! Loren and Chris, the two dudes we were with, both got Tandoori chicken dishes- also delish.
The center of our vegetarian meals was a mixed vegetables masala dish, saag paneer (spinach and Indian cheese- like tofu), and dahl (brown lentils).
They came with a big bowl of rice for all of us to share. I love how they put peas on top of the rice at Indian restaurants.
It also came with a big bowl of Raita- my favorite. Raita is a yogurt based sauce with cucumber and light spices in it. The idea is to sprinkle the Raita on top of your dish to balance out the spiciness of the meal. I used a lot of it!
Our dishes also came with a Samosa (vegetable filled dough thats fried) and lots of Naan (doughy bread).
There was no way I could eat all of this food. I have noticed that since I started really watching my portion sizes, it is harder to eat tooooo much, because my stomach gets fuller much faster and I have to stop. Kind of like natural gastric bypass, no? (Sorry to be gross, but its kind of true… at least you can do it in a healthy way on your own!).
Anyhow, I ate one triangle of Naan, a scoop of rice, all of my dahl (my favorite), and most of the masala veggies. I gave Loren my Samosa after I took one bite to try it (twas good!) and most of my Saag Paneer. Just couldn’t do it!
We then took a nice walk because everyone was really full. We ended up at a wine/ beer bar not too far away.
I had a glass of nice glass of white wine that I sipped for most of the night.
And I later had a small our of some Chimay- really good Belgian beer- when my sis stopped by.
This morning, I got up a little too late (whoops!) and made what I was craving: a waffle sandwich with almond butter + apricot jam, along with some sliced fresh peaches from the Farmer’s Market.
I looooove peaches! And there were lots of ripe, good looking one’s at the market yesterday.
Waffle sammies are so satisfying because of the mix of sweet/ salty and protein/ carb… Lots of staying power!
Loren went to brunch with a friend who is in town and is then watching a football game with friends. I’m bummed I couldn’t go, but I just have to use this day for work. Again.
But it’s OK- in a month it will all be over! And in 9 months, hopefully I will be enrolled in a law school- preferably one that I really like!
Have a great Sunday!
