Today I took some major “me time”- and it was awesome!!
I worked for a few hours in the morning and early afternooon and got a good amount done. While there (my local coffee shop), I ordered an awesome lunch: a tuna melt with a side salad. And I had an iced Vanilla Bean Black Tea with honey + a dash of soy milk.
I was in the mood for something cheesy, warm, and comforting but also wanted some good veggies. This was the perfect choice! I just poured some balsamic on the salad. The veggies all tasted really fresh and it was a nice contrast to the mayo + cheese on the sammie. Speaking of cheese, I actually ended up taking a bunch of it off, because this sandwich was LOADED with it. There was melted cheese on both sides of the bread!
This is what it looked like when I was fininished with it:)
I could have easily eaten all of this on the sandwich and loved every second of it. But I asked myself if I really needed ALL that cheese to get the same good flavor, and realized I didn’t. When I am out, I try to use this rule: if I would eat the portion at home, I will eat it out. But I would not put 4 slices of cheese on a sandwich! Waste of calories!
After working til 3:30, I treated myself to a massage. It has been soooo long since I had a massage, and, with all of the computer work I have been doing, my neck and shoulders have been killing me. I actually have a degenerating disk in my neck (between C6 & C7), so I suffer from a lot of neck pain. I had a really bad tension headache all morning, and decided to call a spa in Brooklyn to see if there were any openings- and there were! I went to Element Spa. I’ve never been before but it got great reviews online and I wanted to try it out. Well, it was totally worth it. The best massage I have ever had. Really. I would 100% go back and recommend it to anyone. My masseuse was knowledgable, professional, and really talented!
After the massage, my neck and shoulders were feeling really sore and all I could think of was a bath. I had planned on doing more work, but I knew I needed to just soak, so I had some more “me time”. I ran a really hot bath with bubbles 🙂 and read Women’s Health/ closed my eyes for 45 minutes. It was awesome. I love baths and have had such little time lately that I can’t remember the last time I took one. Need to do it at least once a week.
After the hot bath, I was feeling a little shaky, so I munched on a green apple.
Loren finally got home around 7, and we made dinner. We used a lot of stuff we bought at the farmer’s market- yay!
Sweet corn (boiled), green chard, and couscous + beans. I just used a box of Lentil & tomato couscous and added a can of Cuban Black Beans from TJ’s to bulk it up. It was really good!
Sweet corn + butter + salt & pepper= heaven. Need to make this more often. SO easy!
Of course, I doused my beans and couscous in hot sauce!
It was such healthy, balanced dinner. And vegetarian! There are still so many nights where all I want is veggies (the lasting effects from 8 years as an herbivore).
OK, after all that “me time” I must do at least 1 hour of solid work before TV or bed…. Guess now is a good time to start!
