Dinner tonight was so much fun- and so delicious! I guess I really needed a break because the minute I was handed a glass of wine, it was a flowin…. I’m sure you guys have notice that I am not a daily drinker, but I sure do like a good glass of wine (or 3) every once in a while.
Our friends Anna and Chris came over before dinner and brought 2 delicious bottles- a red and a bubbly rose. Of course, I had a glass of each!
They all munched on some crackers and heavenly cheese, but I wanted to hold out til dinner. When we got to Joya, we were told it would be an hour wait. The place was full of people and the kitchen was busy! (It is out in the open, so annoying people like me can take pictures 🙂 ).
The food is SO good that we said, “OK.” We plopped ourselves down with more wine.
But soon after we sat down, my friend Anna checked with the host. He said that if we were willing to sit outside, he could seat us right away. It was a little drizzly and cold, but there were umbrellas set up, so it was all good. We were happy to be seated!
Girls after lots of wine…
Boys after lots of wine (they are both being funny here)….
We ordered a bunch of plates to share. We started off with veggie Summer and Spring Rolls.
I didn’t really want anything fried, so I just had 2 small pieces of the summer roll and a bite of the spring roll- gave the rest to Chris. 🙂
We ordered 4 entrees to share:
Mixed veggies in garlic sauce,
Spicy Noodles with shrimp,
Curry vegetables and shrimp,
And Pad Thai with chicken.
I first ate a small plate with lots of veggies in garlic sauce and the curry vegetables with shrimp. I wanted to keep it light, so I opted for no rice.
Both veggie dishes were awesome. The red curry sauce is out-of-this world- spicy with lots of great flavor. The vegetables were also cooked to perfection, not overdone, and still had some good crunch!
I didn’t eat much of the Spicy Noodles (only 1 bite), but I did have a little bit of Pad Thai (can’t resist- it’s my favorite!).
I had a second small serving like this one.
All in all, I felt pretty good about my food/ wine choices. I drank half of my red wine with dinner, so I had about 2 1/2 glasses throughout the night. Enough for me to be drogging (drunk blogging) a little at the moment- my tolerance is so low!
I think that the small plates used for sharing really helped me to keep my portion size down, and I was aware enough to try to put everything I was eating on the plate and to PHOTOGRAPH it. That all helps me to stay in line :).
I am satisfied, but not sickle full, and ready to go to bed. See you all tomorrow!
