Good Morning! Unfortunately, its cold and grey out, but, hey, it’s Saturday and I plan to enjoy the day.
Yesterday was filled with great eats. I knew I was going out for pizza with friends for dinner, so I kept lunch light and got a salad at a new deli by my office for lunch. It was $5.95 for as many toppings as you wanted- pretty sweet!
My salad had spinach, carrots, broccoli, cherry tomatoes, garbanzo beans, feta, green olives and 3 grape leaves, with a light drizzle of oil and vinegar. It was all very fresh tasting- I was impressed!
I LOVE grape leaves!
We went to a restaurant called Co. for dinner, known for its pizza, to celebrate my friend Annie’s birthday. None of us had been to Co. before and we were excited to try it out. Being pizza snobs here in NYC, I think we take pizza tasting very seriously. 🙂
We started out with a bottle of wine at the bar while we waited for a table. This Montepulciano that my friend Tara recommended was excellent- fruity, with almost a light cherry flavor. We ended up sharing another during dinner…
Cheers to Annie!
We ordered a bunch of delicious stuff for dinner and just shared it all 4 ways. We started with the Beet Salad and a roasted kale & prosciutto toast.
The kale toast was definitely the winner- and I know from experience that it is hard to cook kale well!
We ordered 3 pizzas to share. They were individual, small sized pizza, so it was the perfect amount.
A Sausage and Fennel Pizza (crushed tomato, roasted fennel, sausage, red onions, chili, buffalo mozzarella, parmesan buffalo mozzarella, spinach, black pepper, garlic):
A Margherita Pizza (tomato, buffalo mozzarella, basil):
And a Cauliflower Pizza (Roasted cauliflower, béchamel, buffalo mozzarella parmesan, green olives, chili, garlic and parsley):
Even though I was most excited to try this one, because it sounded so different, I think we all agreed that the Cauliflower was our least favorite. The sausage pizza was definitely my favorite. I don’t even like fennel, but it was cooked so well in all of these wonderful flavors (garlic, crushed tomatoes, and chilis) that I couldn’t really taste the fennel. I also really like the Margherita- just plain, good pizza flavors.
Of course, we had to order the beautiful birthday girl a surprise slice of cake to celebrate and for her to make her birthday wish!
I only had about 3 bites of the cake- chocolate with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. It was gooey, chocolatey, and delicious!
I think we all agreed that Co.’s pizza was good, not greaaat. The crust was a little burnt, and, for, me, there were not enough topping or sauce on each pie. I had 2 pieces of sausage on my sausage slice! I like a lot of different flavors and textures on my pie. (I told you we were tough critics!).
At the same time, I would definitely take friends or family here from out-of-town if I was in the ‘hood…The service was excellent, the atmosphere was really nice, and I think a visitor would enjoy it. I just wouldn’t call it the best pizza of NYC!
It was so nice to be together with my closest girlfriends from college- that always makes for a perfect dinner!
