Sorry I didn’t post last night. The computer I have at home is painfully slow and I didn’t get home from work til 9. There was nooo way I could spend an hour posting!
Anyhow, I now realize why I have had no appetite all week. Loren has been sick since last weekend and I thought I was in the clear, but I woke up today with a sore throat. Its nothing too terrible, and, hey, my knee is feeling better!
It’s just one of those weeks when things go wrong. Speaking of, I called the guys who are working on my laptop. Apparently, the hard drive crashed and that’s why it went capoot. And they don’t know if they can retrieve the data. They have to first install a new operating system and hard drive on my Mac and then see if they can transfer the old data. It is $$$ and scary and I hope it works! So, please, say a prayer for my sad little computer!
Since my knee is feeling better, I woke up this morning and went to the gym for a light workout. I don’t feel like I am deathly ill or anything, and exercise is what I needed after 2 days of laying off of my knee- not for my waistline but for my sanity! I did 30 minutes on the bike (at a low resistance) and some stretching. I feel much better now, but I have no appetite at all. I could not imagine eating breakfast this morning, so I am subsisting off of tea and ricolas. I hope I am hungry for lunch.
Yesterday was not a big hunger day either, but I ate what I craved.
I had half of a banana and a Glo-granola bar in the morning.
I left work around 1 and instead of heading home to do law school work, I just took a really long walk. It was sunny and gorgeous out and I knew that being outside would lift my spirits. I walked all the way to the Brooklyn Bridge and sat in the little park right under the bridge on a bench. I just watched the water for a while and I felt better. It’s amazing that, having meditated for 15 minutes a day for 5 days, I can bring that practice into the rest of my days more and more. It is very useful.
Around 2:30, at the park, I ate a big, delicious turkey and cheese sandwich that I picked up at a bakery along the way. It was exactly what I was craving: plain white bread and the comforting, simple flavors of my favorite sandwich.
The baguette was awesome!
Sitting alone in the sun, looking at the water, and eating a wonderful big sandwich, was such a perfect moment in an otherwise not so great week. I was proud of myself for giving myself exactly what I wanted at the time, and for letting myself just be for a while. Sometimes, when you can’t find calm, you have to create it!
The rest of the day’s eats included an apple for snack, before I headed back to work at 6.
And, when I got home at 9:15, a bowl of whole wheat cous cous and veggies, leftover from Wednesday night.
This was so good- and so simple to make. I just put all of my favorite veggies and toppings into the cold cous cous and dressed the salad inEVOO and balsamic. It had: chickpeas, tomato, peppers, onion, cucumber, feta cheese, olives, and golden raisins.
Sweet golden raisins provide the perfect contrast to vinegar and salty feta and olives. You should try it!
The best part? I have lots of leftovers!
Well, I’m off… Blogging about all of this food might have just done the trick. I feel my appetite coming back!
Happy Friday guys, have a great one!
