Hey guys! Long time no see…
Sorry I haven’t blogged in a few days- it was a busy and quick trip up to see my sister, and I wanted to use my time to see her and hang out. Yale is beautiful in the fall!
Friday was a pretty uneventful eating day (a granola bar for breakfast, tuna sandwich for lunch, soup and salad for dinner) and because I was meeting a professor/ having dinner with new people, I didn’t take many pictures.
But yesterday morning we met my sister for brunch at a place called Claire’s Corner Copia in New Haven.
Claire’s is awesome, serving vegetarian and vegan dishes with sustainable and organic ingredients. They donate 10% of their profits to charities. Their mission is this: Every day, we make decisions that we feel can best serve our world, through our buying of sustainable foods, our fair wages and health insurance for our treasured staff, our commitment to help to fill the needs of our community, and the respect for our earth and for everyone with whom we share it. Their take out cups and food bags are paper rather than plastic, completely compostable, and are printed with soy ink. I am always thrilled to support places like Claire’s and I go there every time I go up to Yale.
I was really hungry for breakfast because I had worked out in the hotel’s gym (35 minutes elliptical, 20 minutes strengthening) and hadn’t eaten very much the day before. I went with what I was craving: an omelet with mushrooms, tomato, spinach, and queso fresco. It came with a whole wheat bagel- and I ordered a side of soy bacon.
I also had a small OJ and an English Breakfast tea.
It was SO good! I cleaned my plate!
But not before topping my eggs with ketchup and hot sauce!
Loren got Vegan Blueberry pancakes- he was psyched. Both he and my sister can’t really eat dairy, so this was the perfect place for them!
Just to give you a sense of how much my boyfriend eats, he had soy sausage on the side of his pancakes but was STILL hungry and ordered 2 poached eggs on (literally) half a loaf of bread. He ate it all! That’s how he keeps his thin physique…
Margaret’s breakfast was the BEST! She got huevos rancheros- with no cheese or sour cream- and a side of guacamole. The eggs, peppers, and tomato sauce were served over a plate of corn chips. It was excellent!
Marg also ordered a mini-loaf of the most amazing bread made right at Claire’s (no picture). It was chewy, salty, and even a little sweet all at the same time. And warm- fresh out of the oven.
Yes, I am surrounded by thin people with the world’s fastest metabolisms🙂.
We had breakfast around 10:30 and after finishing walked around for a couple of hours. Around 2:30, we headed to the train station. We picked up subway sandwiches for the train ride (the healthiest option at the station). I got a veggie sandwich (no cheese) with mustard and oil and vinegar, but ended up stealing 2 pieces of Loren’s turkey to have a little protein.
I love tons of crisp veggies!
The train ride was pretty smooth and uneventful… I just zoned out listening to Taylor Swift Pandora on Loren’s iphone (yes, I like her. I am a teenage girl in my taste in music).
I bothered Loren when I got bored by taking pictures of him. Then I slept. Then we were home!
I bought a bunch of candy when we got home so we could sit out on our stoop and hand it out. I love seeing little kids in their costumes. We did the same thing last year and I have to say, it is one of the perks of being in Brooklyn. We actually have neighborhood! Our upstairs neigbors actually joined us outside, and it was really nice to get to know them. They brought some Pumpkin beer outside and shared it with us. I had one, and it hit the spot!
After sitting on the stoop for a couple of hours, it started to drizzle so we headed inside. After a beer and some candy (1 kiddie size peanut M&Ms, 1 mini snickers, and 4 mini chocolate covered pretzels) I wasn’t in the mood for anything heavy for dinner, so I just whipped up a quick salad with lettuce, tomato, yellow pepper, cucumber, garbanzos, sunflower seeds, and some goat cheese.
I was craving lots of veggies and this was perfect.
After dinner, Loren and I unpacked and watched X-Men: Wolverine. Very fitting for Halloween, no? It was really good! I love the X-men movies.
Tux and Buzz found a new home…
And then we went to bed!
We got an early start today and I am hoping it will be a fun but productive day (still have a little law school work to do). I need to get out of bed (I am currently bed-blogging) and head to the kitchen because I smell Pumpkin Pancakes cooking! I will see you guys later to discuss them- and other important issues. Have a great day!
