Yesterday on my TJ’s run I did something I usually avoid: I picked up a whole papaya (that felt really nice and tender) to take home, peel, slice, and eat. I never learned how to peel fruits like melon or papaya as a kid, so I often avoid buying the whole fruit…. I’m just not very good with a knife. But I hate spending a lot on pre-cut fruit that isn’t even fresh or tasty.
So, this morning I faced the knife and the papaya in the kitchen. I sliced the papaya in half down the long side, scooped out the seeds, and did my best to cut the peel away without taking out too much of the fruit (I’m always worried I will mess that part up). The verdict? It wasn’t nearly as hard as I thought it would be!
And then I had amazing, fresh, tasty fruit as the star of my breakfast.
I served a the ripe, juicy papaya over a big scoop of cottage cheese and Bare Naked Granola… it rocked!
The lesson learned? Big or small, trivial or life-changing, it always pays to try the things you fear!
