I was a bottomless pit all day yesterday and was craving lots of filling, hearty foods (definitely has something to do with the time of the month- yes, I said it). And, when I look back on it, I ate a lot of meat! I guess that after 8 years as a veggie, I am still making up for lost time. 🙂
Breakfast was meat-free, but still delicious.
We were up early because of the time change (I love feeling like I get 1 more hour in my day) and Loren made yummy Pumpkin-Blueberry pancakes with our TJ’s mix. They were soooo good!
Topped mine with some maple syrup and a scoop of cottage cheese.
Loren ate his with almond butter like a sandwich, and wanted the blog world to see his method…
We definitely had a little debate as to whose method was better. I think I won when I scared Loren about not getting enough calcium because he doesn’t eat dairy. Victory!
After breakie, we spent the morning working/ reading and around noon, we headed out just to walk around, do some errands, and enjoy the day. I was really surprised at how hungry I was when we stopped for lunch. I felt like I hadn’t eaten all day- how weird!
And this is where the meat started to happen, because I had 2 weird cravings.
I had a cup of chicken vegetable soup:
(There was some sort of grain in there, too- not really sure).
I also had a little more than half of this turkey sandwich- split it with Loren.
It was a lot of food and A LOT of protein, but, surprisingly, I didn’t feel that full afterwards- just satisfied. It was kind of funny, actually.
We spent the afternoon walking through Brooklyn- my favorite way to spend the weekend and to get exercise. We passed some beautiful images…
A brownstone covered in multi-colored leaves.
And a stoop full of carved pumpkins!
I wasn’t hungry for a snack, but we did stop at Jaques Torres, a chocolate shop all the way down in Dumbo. It’s supposed to have amazing hot chocolate (and was packed with tourists) so I had to try some, of course.
It was rich but not too sweet. I drank it with a spoon but couldn’t finish- I had about 2/3. Yum! Loren had a chocolate chip cookie that he deemed “good but not chewy enough”. I had a bite and agreed.
We did some more work and just relaxed when we got home. I did a small TJ’s run and picked up some things for dinner…
I was in the mood for meat again, so I made a very simple chili with lean beef, kidney beans, black beans, tomato, tomato paste, onion, salsa and some other fun spices including CINNAMON. Yes, it works- it was awesome!
Loren ate his in a wrap, like a burrito, and loved it. I think I am going to copy him for lunch today.
Speaking of that, gotta get moving and get out the door. Happy Monday!
