I’ve had a wonderful day of eats so far, and I have the afternoon to relax at home (and blog!)Β before heading back to work from 5:30 to 9 pm. I’ve been feeling so much better (knock on wood) the last few days and I’m starting to get my energy back! Yay!
This morning, I woke up and headed to the gym. I did:
- 20 minutes on the bike
- 20 minutes on the elliptical
- 20 minutes of weights
- 5 minutes stretching
I felt great when I got home… and hungry. I wanted something savory involving eggs, but I also wanted oats. Then, I thought of the creative Savory Oats recipes I had seen on other food blogs, and I decided to give it a go!
I loved this! It’s perfect for a gal like me who likes salty, cheesy stuff more than sweet. I guess I have more of a “cheese tooth”!
To make these oats I used:
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup almond milk
- 1/2 cup oats
- salt and pepper
- a little sprinkle of goat cheese (melted into the oats 2 minutes before they were ready)
And I topped the savory oats with a simple, delicious sunny-side up egg…. and lots of hot sauce, of course! π
This is such a great protein + complex carb combo and held me over all morning. I wish I had had a piece of fruit with breakfast, but I didn’t have time. Oh, well. Can’t have it all!
I had lunch at home today and was so excited to make another big plate of veggies, humus, and a grilled sammie.
The sandwich had Applegate Farms turkey bologna, 1 slice of Applegate Farms cheddar, yellow mustard, and…. PICKLES!
Can you say… AMAZING?
This was such a perfect plate of food, in my opinion, because it combined so many different flavors, colors, textures… and it took so long to get through, making the goodness last :).
SO satisfying!
Alright, I’m off to do some small fix-its around the apartment and rest before I get back to work at 5:30. I will bring a good snack to hold me over until 9, when I will be having dinner at home with Loren!
I tried savory oats last weekend for the first time too and loved them!! SO good right? π I put ketchup on mine, but next go-round I think some hot sauce is in order…
I really need to make this sandwich, it’s become a ‘must do’ at this point.
Haha. I highly recommend it! You can use turkey, ham- whatever you like, but I really love the Applegate Farms turkey bologna.
You continue to kill me with those pictures of your bologna, cheese and pickle sandwich! Ahhhh I need to find this stuff!
I love that bowl — so cute!

That sammie does look pretty amazing!
Was it weird at first with the savoury oats? I am kinda scared to try them because it seems strange … but I am definitely more of a “cheese tooth” as well! I love savoury flavours, I am just scared to mix them with oats π
your sandwich is grilled to perfection. you should be very very proud! thanks for your comment on my blog – yes ma’am i will do my thang, and the producers will either have to like it or lump it – no personal trainers for moi!
